This airport was constructed in 1933. During the Second World War, the Royal Canadian Air Force conducted flight training here. The field was made available to the Royal Norwegian Air Force in 1942 and hundreds of Norwegians trained here. In 2001, Norwegian Training in Canada during the Second World War was designated as an event of national historical significance.
