Whether you’re walking from location to location on a lively downtown street or meandering along a backroad in search of a hidden gem, each one of Hastings County’s unique Doors Open locations are filled with wonder and discovery.
Our land is known as a region rich with resources. Since time immemorial, First Nations traversed the rugged wilderness, following migratory patterns and the river systems. The communities speckled among our vast green spaces were settled by those, both brave and optimistic, who flocked to unearth its riches and carve out a home among the thick forests. Oral documentation narrates the Indigenous peoples who share valuable knowledge of how to survive and thrive in such a harsh environment.
Hastings County is a patchwork of forests mixed with pastures, glades, rocky Canadian shield and winding waterways. These powerful and connecting waterways allowed for passage and progression long before the roads you will travel were built. They fueled the making and moving of raw goods and were the foundation of our community’s growth and sustainability.
Hastings County is steeped in tradition and surrounded by Mother Nature’s bounty.

Land acknowledgment
Hastings County is situated on the traditional territory of many nations, including the Huron-Wendat, Anishnaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples. Hastings County Council acknowledges our shared obligation to respect, honour and sustain these lands and the natural resources contained within. We honour their cultures and celebrate their commitment to this land. We would also like to acknowledge the Mohawk and Algonquin nations whose traditional and unceded territory we gather on. Hastings County is situated on treaty land abounding in rich Indigenous history and home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit people.
