Porcupine Dante Club, The

The contribution of the Italian community to the development of Timmins-Porcupine, from the earliest days of the mining camps, is reflected in many of Timmins’ street names and local businesses that survive to this day. Italian immigration occurred in two waves, from 1900 until the First World War and then again from 1950 to 1970. The Porcupine Dante Club was established in 1952 by Tony Mascioli, Joe Pindilli, Pete Morandin, Silvio Torlone and Pete Cosco. Its mission is to promote and preserve the Italian language, culture and traditions in the Timmins area; the not-for-profit has more than 500 members. Built on Cedar Street in 1955, the hall was expanded in 1970 and again in 1972. The building, which hosts multiple events every year, boasts a ballroom, restaurant, club room, kitchens and bocce court!
