Visit the world’s last operating double-decker theatre and learn about its history from the vaudeville era to today. Go inside the theatres, see samples from the world’s largest collection of vaudeville scenery, and check out the restored Loew’s sign on the south side of the building. No tours, but volunteers and staff will be available. Photography allowed but no tripods.
Come and take a closer look at the historical Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres – the last operating double-decker theatre facility in the world. These stacked Vaudevillian-era theatres were saved from demolition in 1981 by the Ontario Heritage Trust. As part of Digital Doors Open, take a virtual tour inside this theatre complex. And learn about the history of this remarkable place through the video below.
