Sandwich First Baptist Church was built in 1851 to accommodate the growing Black community seeking refuge through the Underground Railroad. It was built on Crown land in the former municipality of Sandwich. In 1995, it was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and in 1999 recognized as a National Historic Site. Modest in scale, it is limited in decorative elements.
